A.C.O.R.N.S.

ACORNS is a volunteer group of Cornell Cooperative Extension formed to serve the public by fostering environmental education, recreational opportunities and responsible environmental stewardship at the Genesee County parks. We support the parks by assisting with environmental education and park maintenance, offering recreational opportunities and promoting the parks.

Batavia Area Jaycees

Jaycees is an international community service organization for people between the ages of 21 and 39. The Batavia Area Jaycees have offered leadership training through community development projects since 1934. Our chapter is known for running an annual home show in March and a 5k run on Labor Day. In the past we were responsible for the creation of GCC and Genesee County Park. We continue to display American flags on Main Street on major national holidays, run a food stand at Go-Art’s Picnic in the Park, hold a lighting contest during the holidays and sponsor several youth sports teams. It is always a fun time whenever Jaycees get together. Our meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at our own Jaycee Hall above the House of K on Jackson Street. Batavia Muckdogs

Minor league baseball has been part of Batavia’s local color since 1939 when the deal creating the original
PONY League was penned in Batavia at the Hotel Richmond. Since that time, there have been various “parent” clubs; currently, the Batavia franchise is part of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball family. Though a number of team names have been associated with Batavia over the years, the “MUCKDOGS” have graced the field since 1998, their logo becoming one of the top ten minor league designs in the nation.

Batavia Photography Club

The Batavia Photography Club was founded in 1987 by Jim Dusen. It was formed to share and promote photography in and around Genesee County, to enjoy, master and improve the art of photography through cooperative sharing along with good fellowship.

Meetings are open to the public and are on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Northgate Free Methodist Church, Bank Street, Batavia.

BJ’s Wholesale Club

B.J.’s Wholesale Club is a company that is very much involved and active in its community. Our main focus is with the children and the educational system.

B.J.’s offers a partnership with schools where we help raise funds for the school at no extra cost to the schools. B.J.’s supplies items for our local food pantry, Salvation Army, United Way and many others. B.J.’s takes great pride in the giving and the helping it does all year and not just during the holidays.

City of Batavia

This year’s tree decorations are donated by the employees of the City of Batavia. The ornaments represent the different departments and services that the city offers.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County Master Gardeners

I Love Lucy, I remember Mama, Gunsmoke, Korean War, I Like Ike, The Donna Reed Show are all reminders of the 1950s. Does anyone remember hula hoops and poodle skirts, Elizabeth II becoming the Queen of England or the death of Josef Stalin. The Master Gardeners remember many a happy Christmas from their childhood. They recreated a tree from the memories of their favorite Christmas in the 1950s along with some of their favorite toys they received for Christmas.

Crossroads House

Crossroads House is located at 11 Liberty Street in Batavia. The community joined together to establish this comfort home for the dying and now continues to support it through donations of their time, talents and monetary gifts. Due to continued generosity, Crossroads House provides hospitality and individualized care at no charge to our residents or their families.

First Presbyterian Church

The congregation of Batavia First Presbyterian Church has been serving God and the community at the corner of Liberty and Main for many years.

Friends of the Richmond Memorial Library

The Friends of the Richmond Memorial Library Association is the fund raising arm of the Richmond Memorial Library. We organize book sales, raffles and programs of interest to the group, meet regularly and always welcome new members.

Genesee County Americorps

Genesee County Americorps mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement though service and volunteering. Half-time and minimum-time members are placed at a variety of host sites in the Genesee County area. Assignments fall under categories of youth development and community outreach.

Genesee County ARC

Genesee County Chapter NYSARC, Inc. is an organization of Parents and Friends committed to helping Individuals with Disabilities achieve their fullest potential. We have a variety of vocational, day and residential programs and also provide case management, counseling, community services, transportation, advocacy and family support. We are here to help!
Genesee County Department of Social Services

Genesee County Department of Social Services Foster Care and Adoption Services strive to provide permanency for every child that we serve, primarily through family reunification, or through adoption if reunification is not possible. Our “favorite Christmas” is when we can help make a child’s dream for a family come true!

Genesee County Health Department

The Genesee County Health Department provides health services to Genesee County residents of all ages. These services include Home Health Care, Nursing Home without Walls, Maternal and Child health services, Services to Children with Special Needs, Immunizations, Flu, STD and Tuberculosis Control Clinics, as well as environmental health services. Genesee Green Thumb Junior Master Gardeners

4-H is a group of active 6 – 17 year olds that are involved with learning all aspects of gardening from their Master Gardner leaders. They enjoy creating things from garden grown plants, getting their hands dirty, exhibiting at the Genesee County Fair and eating what they grow. All while having fun!

Genesee Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse

Founded in 1975, Genesee Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (GCASA) is the primary provider of prevention, outpatient treatment, and residential substance abuse services in Genesee and Orleans counties.

GCASA's mission is to improve community health, reduce stigma towards people with substance abuse disorders, and work across systems to produce positive community change.

Genesee Valley BOCES - Ms. Fox’s Class

“The Night Before Christmas”
Ms. Fox’s middle school-aged class at the Genesee Valley BOCES chose to decorate their “Favorite Christmas” tree based on the time-honored classic story “The Night Before Christmas” by Clement C. Moore. Young children as well as kids with disabilities and other children of all ages learn and practice many basic skills by reading and listening to this story. Our students used many items found at home and around the classroom to create decorations that look like the people, places and things they heard about in the story “The Night Before Christmas.”


Genesee Wyoming Catholic Central School

Genesee Wyoming Catholic Central School, in Attica, has provided a quality Catholic education to hundreds of children since 1906. Classes for grades K-8 are taught in a family-like atmosphere with daily spirituality and moral instructions. We strive to educate the children by promoting the WHOLE person-mind, body, and spirit.

Girl Scouts of Big Bend Service Unit

We are proud to announce that we are celebrating 95 years of Girl Scouting in the United States. Four and five year old girls start as Daisys. They advance into Brownies (1st – 3rd grade) and then to Juniors (4th – 6th grade.) Next is Cadets, which range from 7th – 9th grade. The final level is Seniors (grade10 – 12.) The girls earn many badges, complete community service and work at learning to be leaders for the future. We are proud to serve Batavia.

GLOW Region Solid Waste Management Committee

In keeping with the My Favorite Christmas theme, the GLOW tree features environmentally friendly gifts and ideas. Among the items on and around the tree are Polar Fleece garments, wind up radios and flashlights, birdfeeders and seed, canvas bag and other items. Larger items and ideas are represented by pictures and index cards.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind ~ Genesee Puppy Raising Region:

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a non profit organization, founded in 1954, with the simple commitment of offering visually impaired individuals a new sense of independence and dignity with assistance of professionally trained guide dogs. The Genesee Region invites interested individuals and families to contact us regarding the local guide dog puppy raising program.

Holland Land Office Museum Quilt Guild

The Quilt Guild meets on the third Saturday of the month at the VA where we enjoy show and tell, educational programs and exchange ideas. We also have an activity community service program and have a quilt show every other year.

Holy Family School

Holy Family School in LeRoy is a Catholic school offering classes to Kindergarten thru eighth graders from five area counties. With a Christian atmosphere, low student/teacher ratio, AP classes, extensive arts/music program, and high standardized test performances, HFS has repeatedly obtained a top 10 rating in Western New York Schools.

Kiwanis Club of Batavia

Since 1923, the Kiwanis Club of Batavia has been serving the people of Genesee County and beyond. They have sponsored local youth sports teams, given away 1000s of toys to underprivileged children during the holiday season through the Toys for Tots program and have built two parks, Kiwanis Park in the Town of Batavia and Kiwanis Memorial Park in downtown Batavia. New York State School for the Blind

N.Y.S.S.B. is a school for blind-multi-handicapped students from the age of 5 to 21 years old. We provide a foundation of learning to enable each student to become a contributing member in a diverse society. We promote a learning environment that puts achievement and independence within the reach of each student.

Oatka Bridle and Collar 4-H Club

OBCC is a 4-H animal club that meets in LeRoy. Recently formed, our goals are intended to reflect the educational and community service ideas of 4-H through learning about training and caring for animals. New members are welcome.

Oliver’s Candies

Oliver’s Candies fine chocolates and confections since 1932. Owned by the Quincey Family, “We are your chocolate gift store!” Open 9 till 9 seven days a week at 211 West Main Street in Batavia.

Planned Parenthood

In 1978, Planned Parenthood opened its doors in Genesee County. The clinic was located at 432 East Main Street. In 1979, Planned Parenthood offered clinical services to residents of Genesee County. These services included pregnancy testing, annual exams, and methods of contraception. Planned Parenthood also had a local Board of Directors (all residents of Genesee County). Twenty-five years later, Planned Parenthood continues to provide these services and much more.

Rainbow Preschool

Rainbow Preschool provides educational and supportive services for children with disabilities, age birth to five, and their families. We are a child and family centered program offering teacher, speech and language, music, occupational, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services to children in a structured classroom on site, in home or community based setting. RSVP of Genesee County

The service agencies are our community bells, sounding the need for help. The volunteers of RSVP of Genesee County are the rocks who answer the jingle. Celebrating 20 years of placing volunteers, RSVP engages individuals who are 55 years of age and older, retired or not, in volunteer service to meet critical community needs. In the last year, 471 volunteers provided 55,896 hours of service to 45 agencies.

Sacred Heart Religious Education

Sacred Heart Religious Education Program this year remembered their favorite memories of Christmas. Our candles represent our Christmas song we sing at our Christmas Eve children’s mass, “This Little Light of Mine”, the doves represent the spirit of Confirmation and doing Christmas cards for our soldiers over seas, snowflakes represent the memories of getting sleds for Christmas presents, and green ornaments document the memories that the students have about Christmas and what Christmas represents to us. The little ones favorite memory is writing to Santa Claus and putting their requests in to Santa for their presents as they are all good boys and girls. Sacred Heart students wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

St. Joseph’s School

St. Joseph School is a Catholic school that accepts as its mission the development of each individual to his/her fullest potential; the preparation of each child to be receptive to the message of Jesus, and to share in the life of the Holy Spirit; and, through this commitment to faith, to be of service to the St. Joseph Parish community and the community at large.

St. Paul’s Lutheran School

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has been an integral part of the Batavia community since 1873. Worship services are conducted at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. every Sunday. The 9:00 a.m. service is sign interpreted for the deaf. St Paul’s offers pre-school classes for 3 and 4 year olds as well as kindergarten through 5th grade classes. The community is welcome to visit St. Paul Lutheran Church. The school will present The Next Noel on Wednesday, December 20th at 7:00 p.m. Our tree features decorations made by our school children. The theme is “The Jesus Tree.” The decorations remind us of Jesus, because Jesus is our favorite Christmas memory.

“The Place to Be” Social Club / The Warm Line

The club is a drop in center for consumers of mental health services where they can get together in a safe environment to relax, talk with peers, share information, support one another and establish friendships. The Warm Line is a peer-to-peer telephone service which is provided through the Genesee County Mental Health Association by trained volunteers. Encouragement, support and a friendly voice are available seven days a week from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. by calling (585) 813-0072. We would love to hear from you!


The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Center for Worship and Service, located at 529 East Main Street, Batavia, has been serving God and mankind in Genesee County since 1886. We provide year round programs of Christian worship and witness, community center and emergency relief.

Tonawanda Valley Collectors Club

Founded in 1991, the TVCC is a group of about 50 members who enjoy collecting antiques and collectables for fun, education and the exchange of ideas. The group meets on the 4th Monday of the month at the Veteran’s Nursing Home. We have interesting programs each month. Guests are welcome to attend. Volunteers for Animals of Batavia is a non-profit animal care organization dedicated to providing care-giving services and programs for the benefit of animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter. vfa@Rochester.rr.com

YWCA of Genesee County

The YWCA of Genesee County's mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. One of the ways we do this is through our YWCA TechGYRLS Program which occurs after school twice a week at our five childcare sites and for two weeks in the summer as well. Girls only, ages 9 -13 gather together to work with an animation software program that not only shows them Technology can be fun but also rewarding. Statistics show that girls have all the same opportunities as boys but they don't take advantage of them because of the way our society educates girls. Many women still choose traditional careers because they haven't been shown how rewarding non-traditional careers for women can be. Call 343-5808 for more information on our TechGYRLS program.

Zonta Club of Batavia - Genesee

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, NY, we have approximately 34,000 members in more than 1200 clubs in 70 countries. Our focus is to encourage women’s leadership, education and training in women’s development in the business world and community.
