Program 1: Genesee County’s Unsolved Mysteries
Join us as we learn about the unsolved mysteries of the County.
These mysteries have caused a number of questions over the
years. Will we be able to solve them? Or will they remain
a mystery forever?

Program 2: Life in the 1960s
Woodstock, the Vietnam War, student protests, and bus boycotts.
What do they have in common? They all happened in the 1960s.
Americans living in this decade experienced vast changes as
our country went from the feel good vibes of the 1950s to
the world peace stance of the 1960s.

Program 3: The Vietnam War
In the previous program, we touched upon this war that lasted
for 14 years and divided our Nation. This was seen for the
longest time as a conflict and not a war. In order to have
enough troops, the government utilized the draft and, as a
result, many young men left the country. Join us as we learn
about a difficult time in our Country’s history.

Program 4: Tour: Strong National Museum of Play
We will be traveling to the Strong National Museum of Play
in Rochester. Come learn about toys through the ages. This
program is open to the first 20 students, so make sure that
you sign up early.

.Program 5: City Government
We will go to the City Centre to meet with City Manager Jason
Molino. He will talk to us about his job and some of the City’s
departments.

Program 6: The Life and Times of John Gardner
Join us as local author Bill Kauffman comes in to talk about
another local author, John C. Gardner. Gardner was born in
Batavia and put Batavia on the literary map with his book
Sunlight Dialogues.

Program 7: New Yorkers
at the Alamo
Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett: these are names that are associated
with this battle for the independence of Texas. But how about
Samuel Evans and John Jones? These are two of the dozen men
from New York who lost their lives during this siege. Join
us as we learn about these men and the others at the Alamo.

Program 8: Famous Western New York Musicians
Ani DiFranco, Goo Goo Dolls, Rick James, the 10,000 Maniacs
and Natalie Merchant: what do these people have in common?
They are all from the Western New York area. Join us as we
learn about these people and their impact on the music community.

Program 9: Cemetery Tour: Mount Hope
We will continue our annual excursions to area cemeteries
by visiting Mount Hope in Rochester. Who will we turn up this
year? Come prepared as we spend the program walking through
Rochester’s largest cemetery. This program is open to
the first 20 students, so make sure you sign up early.

Program 10: Genesee County’s Medal of Honor Recipients
The Medal of Honor is the highest military honor is given in
this country. We will learn about some of the men who received
this honor and were born and raised in Genesee County. Our most
famous recipient is Charles Rand, but there are others. Join
us as Pat tells us about these brave men.

Program 11: Geocashing
Join us as we learn about one the latest crazes: Geocashing.
We will be using handheld global positioning satellite technology
to go on a mini treasure hunt.

Program 12: Life in the 1970s
Disco, Punk Rock, Studio 56; these are some of the social aspects
of the 1970s. This was a decade of excess and the growth of
many movements. Known as the “Me Decade”, this period
saw the country go from the social activism of the 1960s to
social activities.

Program 13: Life in the 1980s
This decade brought to life the line “Video Killed the
Radio Star” with the advent of MTV. Fashion was ever changing,
as teenagers dressed like their favorite singers. The 1980s
brought about the rise of Yuppies such as Michael J. Fox’s
character, Alex P. Keaton. Learn about the various changes and
fads of this decade.

Program 14: Genesee Country
Village and Museum
Join us as we tour this nearby museum and learn about life in
Western New York during the 1800s. This program is open to the
first 20 students, and is on a first some first served basis.

Program 15: The Supreme Court
In past sessions we learned about the legislative and the executive
branches of our government. Next we will study the judicial
branch and the Supreme Court. Learn about some of our groundbreaking
court cases, and famous Supreme Court Justices.

.Program 16: Senecas During the Great Depression
Join us as Terry Abrams comes in to discuss New Deal programs
that helped these Native Americans during the Great Depression.
