Rotary Engine Working Model

Recently acquired (Spring 2012), this working model (circa 1940) of a rotary engine made by Edward Follett, who was a Batavia cabinet maker by trade. There are also several drawings of this engine which will be on display along with the model in the museum.

Harry Wilbur House by Vic Corey

Acquired Winter 2011. Vic Corey, local Batavia artist, has donated this beautiful water color painting to the HLOM. It is of the former residence of Harry Wilbur, located at 314 E. Main St. The home is much still the same as it was in the 1850s as the painting depicts.

Bvrt. General Emory Upton Trunk

Acquired Winter 2011. Donated by Mr. John Carson of LeRoy, NY is a steamer trunk that was owned and used by Bvrt. General Emory Upton on his two year tour of Asia and Europe.

Chimney Cap, Wiard Plow

Acquired Spring 2011. The chimney cap manufactured by the Wiard Plow Company, Batavia (1909) comes to the museum from Concord VT and the Bergeron Family. The cap was removed from a garage/barn on the family farm--originally known as the "Ernest Skinner Farm" on Meeting House Hill in Passumpsic VT.

Reed & Barton Gravy Boat

The Reed & Barton stainless steel gravy boat from the Richmond Hotel was donated by Denny Rhodes, which he acquired from Lilian Watson, who was a baker for many years at the hotel. The Richmond Hotel was located on the corner of Court and Main Streets in Batavia. It was demolished around 1961.

Advertising Thermometer

Acquired October 2011. This interesting advertising thermometer was very common in the 1930s. This was used at C.C. Day & Son Distributors, which was the first gas distributor in Pembroke. Their business was located on the north side of Route 5 in Pembroke and the building still exists to this day.

Block Plane

Acquired October 2011. Donated by Mr. Bret Cross of N. Tonawanda, NY, is a block plane from a large collection. The tools were used by local tradesmen such as cabinetmakers, steam fitters, railroaders, etc...
