Board of Directors
Following in the many footsteps of past leadership, which was founded in 1894 by Mrs. Mary Richmond, wife of Dean Richmond, President of the New York Central Railroad, the current Board of Directors of the Holland Purchase Historical Society are entrusted with the stewardship of the society's artifacts and provide valuable guidance for the staff and volunteers of the Holland Land Office Museum. Board members participate in developing new ideas, plans and events that contribute to the museum's continuing growth.
Twelve individuals currently serve on the Board and bring a wealth of knowledge of local and WNY history, community, business & government skills/contacts and philanthropy. The Board is limited to seventeen members and terms are for three years, and may be re-elected to consecutive terms. Board Officers are elected to a term of one year with the possibility of re-election to a consecutive one year term. Board members receive no reimbursement for their participation. Board meetings are held monthly on the 4th Tuesday of the month and the annual meeting for all H.P.H.S. members is held in October on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Vital to any not-for profit organization is the tireless dedication, energy and support of its volunteers: its Board of Directors. Our nomination committee is always on the lookout to fill vacant positions with individuals interested in joining this dedicated team seeped in the rich history of Genesee County and WNY.

Dedication Day of the Holland Land Office Museum?
The photo to the left may have been taken during the dedication of the Holland Land Office Museum on October 13, 1894 or shortly thereafter, we really don't know. It has been documented that during the dedication festivities, there were persistent rain the entire day, so if this photo was taken on that day, this could account for this group posing under the portico.
Mrs. Mary Richmond is seated center (in white) and was instrumental in saving the building for future generations to enjoy.
