Village of Elba
Rt 98 & Rt 262
Elba Village, originally known as Pine Hill, was incorporated on May 15th, 1884. The four corners consist of Main Street (Route 98), Mechanic Street to the west, and Chapel Street to the east. It was named Pine Hill because of the abundant pine trees in the area. Many of these trees were used to build the frame houses in Batavia.
There were many businesses in the village. John A. Swartz ran a hotel on
the southwest corner of the four corners. The Tornado Windmill Manufacturing
Company opened in the 1860’s by F. E. and O. C. Barr.
