Hamlet of Fort Hill

At Route 19, Parmelee Road & Oatka Trail

Fort Hill (originally called North Woods) is located along Route 19 at Parmelee Road and Oatka Trail. It is named for a pre-Colombian Indian fort nearby. Many of the early settlers were Scottish immigrants who built farms east of Route 19.

Fort Hill became a thriving community and within a few years there was a tavern, saw mill, gristmill, post office, grange, blacksmith shop, and a school.
