Hamlet of Linden

Chaddock Road & Linden Road

Linden is in the southwest corner of Bethany. It was originally called Gad-Pouch, but the name was changed about 1812. One of Linden’s earliest structures was a tavern that opened in an 1805 log house. Three years later, a Mr. Coles built a sawmill.

Linden became a bustling place with many mills, a school, a wagon shop, blacksmith and a general store. The Buffalo and New York City Railroad was built through Linden in 1852. It was later taken over by the Erie Railroad.
