Hamlet of Little Canada
Route 63 & Fargo Road
Little Canada, located in the northeastern part of the town was formally known as Bennett’s Mills. James Bennett, Sr. built a mill there in 1806. At different times there was a tavern, school, wagon shop, cooperage, a Methodist Church and a bank.
Local legend says the came from an argument between two women, one of which
was from Canada. One woman said to the other, “Why don’t you go
back to Canada and stay.” With that, a new name was born.
