Hamlet of Pembroke

Route 5 & Lake Road

Pembroke was called Richville in its early days in honor of Charles B. Rich, a prominent businessman, who established a store in 1812 with the backing of Kimberly and Cary of Batavia. Samuel Carr opened a tavern in 1808 and also built the first saw and gristmills the same year. In 1831 Benjamin Blodgett built his Astor House which provided meals and lodging for weary travelers.
