The Land Office Room
The Land Office Room focuses primarily
on the history of the building itself and the founding and growth of
Genesee County through the efforts of the Ellicotts, Paulo Busti, the
Holland Land Company, and the area's settlers. Genesee County was founded
on March 30, 1802, and the building was erected in 1815 as a fireproof
storehouse for local land contracts after the burning of Buffalo. The
exhibit features personal items that belonged to Joseph Ellicott and
his family members, maps, and surveying tools. The room also features
a display honoring Seneca Chief Red Jacket.
