The Sullivan Campaign

The Sullivan Campaign, as it became known, traveled through the Finger Lakes and up the Genesee River valley burning Indian villages, cutting down hundreds of orchard trees, and destroying thousands of acres of cornfields. The Senecas fled to Fort Niagara and the protection of the British. After enduring a harsh winter, the Senecas eventually began to move out.
It was at this time that Tonawanda village, a small settlement along the Tonawanda Creek became a major population center for the Seneca.
